So, where do I begin? (At the beginning, of course!) In addition to "writer", I'm also a teacher, a martial arts instructor, and a youth programs director. I've studied Okinawan karate for nineteen years, and I've taught youth self-defense/karate through non-profit organizations since 1994. I enjoy teaching children immensely, so this is where the schoolteacher part comes in. I've taught grade school for the past few years, mostly on the junior-high level (English and History). When I'm not busy with these endeavors, I'm usually (you guessed it) writing, surfing, playing flamenco guitar, or watching the White Sox in my free time.
I'm a devout long boarder, and I'm comfortable in most types of water and conditions. I've surfed in North Carolina, Texas, California, Florida, the Midwest, and Panama. Being a Chicagoan, I spend the greatest part of my surf time on Lake Michigan (yes, one can surf on an inland ocean; believe it). Check out the photo section, and you'll see one of my all-time favorites…getting a session in on an 18* Christmas morning back in 2000 (water temperature was 34*F at the time of my paddle-out).
I learned how to surf in my college days, and I've been a wave addict ever since.
What else in my free time? I read a lot, sleep, eat, swim. Did I mention baseball? I am a huge baseball fan, and an even bigger White Sox fan (some call me obsessive). So, summertime is when you'll find me in my season seat out in right field. My father took me to my first baseball game at Comiskey Park when I was five. From then on, it's been a non-stop love affair with the South Siders. Go Sox! I spend the winters cheering for the Chicago Blackhawks.
My first novel...Waves of Grace...was officially released last September & is now available at Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com.
